I'm an honorably discharged Veteran of the Cold War, a former Technical Training Instructor with the US Air Force. Earlier this year (2010) I had to leave my job for a non-service-related injury, and somewhere in all my newfound free time, I was introduced to parachute cord, or “Paracord,” for short.
Paracord is a lightweight nylon rope that is amazingly versatile, and has been used by the military for years. I’ve listed some of its many uses on my home page At some point, someone apparently recognized the profits that could be made by offering it to the public, and now it has become quite popular. Soldiers use it quite frequently in Iraq and Afghanistan. By braiding it into useful or decorative items, a considerable length of paracord can be carried around in a very small space.
I’m still learning many of the knots and stitches that are used with paracord accessories, and with my abundance of free time, I am able to practice quite a bit. I hope to offer a wider variety of items soon, in more elaborate styles and with a bigger choice of colors. I’m trying to keep my prices low to make these useful paracord accessories affordable. Plus I feel that it benefits both me and my customers if I try to make a small profit from many sales, as opposed to a large profit from a few sales. Anyway, if I can even marginally succeed in this business, hopefully I can continue to do it full time, even when I’m able to return to work.
